TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The Wildcats began their final week of spring practice with a session in pads Monday, gearing toward fundamentals and fewer mistakes.
Head coach Mike Stoops told players before the practice that he felt after tape study that last Saturday's scrimmage was a sub-par overall performance, and work this week can go a long way toward closing spring ball with a flourish.
"We had too many missed assignments, dropped balls and more of the little things that really count. A championship football team doesn't do that. Our guys can play much better," he said.
“And all of our players still need to get in and work out in the weight room,” he added later. “I know they will work hard this summer and come back well prepared in August.”
Still, UA has practices Wednesday and Thursday before the final work in Saturday's culminating showcase.
The Cats will don full gear for the last time this month on Saturday afternoon in the annual Spring Game at Arizona Stadium. Then it's strength training and individual workouts before the team opens fall camp in August.
