Box Score

TUCSON -- No. 2-ranked Arizona pounded out 12 hits and pitchers Kenzie Fowler and Sarah Akamine combined for a one-hit shutout to lead the Wildcats to a 12-0 victory over Minnesota and a perfect 5-0 mark in the UA's Wildcat Invitational tournament.

Arizona improved to 22-1, dropping the Gophers to 10-17. Minnesota was 1-4 in weekend action.

The Cats came out swinging in the first. Brittany Lastrapes led off with a single through the right side and with two outs Stacie Chambers doubled to center to drive across the first run. After a walk to Brigette Del Ponte, Baillie Kirker doubled to right center to plate two more. Matte Haack and Kristen Arriola drew walks to load the bases, and then Karissa Buchanan drew another walk to drive across the fourth.

Heidi Carls doubled to left center for Minnesota with one out in the second and an out later UA pitcher Kenzie Fowler hit Kari Dorle with a pitch, but Fowler struck out Alison Murphy to stop the threat.

K'Lee Arredondo followed a bunt single by Lauren Schutzler in the second inning with her second home run of the year to make it 6-0. Chambers doubled again, but Del Ponte grounded out and Kirker and Haack struck out.

UA added six more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Arredondo singled and scored on Chambers' third double of the game, but Chambers rounded too far and was picked off second by right fielder Aubrey Davis. Del Ponte homered for the ninth time this season before UA reloaded the bases with two walks and a single. Then Lastrapes drew the eighth walk off Alissa Koch (0-10) to drive in a run before Schutzler singled in two runs.

Fowler (15-0) pitched the first four innings, giving up only the hit to Carls. Akamine came on to pitch the fifth and set down the side in order.

Arizona heads to Fullerton, Calif. for the Judi Garman Classic on Thursday through Sunday.
