Arizona Head Coach Sean Miller
"We definitely did a lot better in the second half than the first. Kyle Fogg recovered from some bad first half shooting and come out with confidence, and his points really gave us the push we needed. We have a lot of different disadvantages than other teams, because we are by no means a tall team, and some shots are hard to get to regardless of the defense."
"We need to work on our balance of twos, getting second shots, and out ball movement. We don't always have to go for the three. We had eight second shots in the game, and a lot of them came from some good movement from Solomon Hill. Like Kyle Fogg, Solomon came back from a less than stellar first half, and really improved on his offensive rebounding, and got us some key put backs."
"We played against a good zone for forty minutes. Northern Arizona really excels at that, and it really gave us a lot to learn from. They ran a lot of their good plays in the last fifteen second of the shot clock. It's a good lesson on defense."
"We are six and two right now, and we've had a lot of things going against us, like Kevin Parrom's situation, and that some guys didn't come out playing like we expected to. We have a long way to go at this point, and we don't really have a lot of room for error, because it's those sloppy mistakes that lead to an easy basket."
"As the schedule progresses, we are going to get better, and these early experiences of success are key. We have three big games coming up. Going to Florida is going to be a big test, and it's really going to teach us a lot. Clemson is a very tough team, and they run a very good zone that today's game will really prepare us for. Then we head up to Seattle, and Gonzaga is going to be a big test for us. We just have to face each game prepared as best we can."
Arizona Player Quotes
#13 Nick Johnson
On his individual progression this season
"I expected to play well, I won't lie. But it all comes down to how well I play in practice. Fogg talks to me and tells me what to expect, and I just listen to Coach Miller. I'm taking it day by day.."
On the start of each half
"Tonight we came out with more energy in the second half. They hold the ball and we had to play 35 seconds of defense so that kind of threw us off. We had to come back with more shots. It was hard because NAU likes to hold the ball."
#44 Solomon Hill
On his adjustment from small forward to power forward
"I knew it would be hard, everyone was expecting for someone to take over and replace what Derrick Williams had. It's not a huge adjustment from three to the four and I like it. My first exhibition game was slow trying to get the new guys on board but I've been playing consistent since then."
On playing competitive teams
"Arizona is all about having big games, we play tough teams day in and day out. It's going to be hard going to Florida. This is what is going to make our future."
#21 Kyle Fogg
On the first half start vs. the second half start
"In first half I was tentative and not very aggressive but the guys stayed with me, Solomon talked to me and told me to keep shooting. The good thing about tonight was that we played hard even though we got off to a slow start.
On Hill's performance
"Solomon had been playing great the last couple of games and I expect him to get even better as the season progresses."
