PALOS VERDES, Calif.-The sixth-ranked University of Arizona's women's golf team posted a team total of 301 as it opened the spring portion of its schedule Monday at the TRW Regional Challenge. Sophomore Lorena Ochoa, who has won every tournament she has competed in this year, carded a 1-over-par 72 to pace Arizona and is tied for fourth place individually.
The Wildcats stand in third place and trail tournament leader Tulsa by 18 strokes. Individually, Dani Mallon and Stacy Prammanasudh, both of Tulsa, lead the way as they each posted opening rounds of 2-under-par 69.
Ochoa rallied down the stretch to bring her first-day total down to 72. The 5-foot-5-inch standout from Guadalajara, Mexico, made birdies on both the par-5 16th hole and the par-4 17th hole to close the round at 1-over. Ochoa is seeking her fifth straight tournament win and carries a streak of 13 consecutive tournaments where she has finished in the top three.
Also turning in strong performances for Arizona were junior Laura Myerscough and freshman Miriam Kraschinski, who share 16th place with six other golfers. The pair both carded rounds of 4-over-par 75. Kraschinski's 75 marks her career-best round as a Wildcat.
Also scoring for the Wildcats Monday was junior Julia Kraschinski, she is tied for 51st place after an opening round score of 8-over-par 79. Junior Anne Lee posted a first-day total of 15-over-par 86.
Action continues at the TRW Regional Challenge with Tuesday's second round beginning at 9 a.m.
