Post-Game Quotes

Arizona Head Coach Joan Bonvicini: “Well, I thought we played hard. We were better offensively, tonight. Our defense was not as good and we had a lot of turnovers early. Green Bay is a smart team. They did a good job of breaking our press.”

“In our zone, the back line wasn’t coming out and defending on the perimeter. In the first half, we put them on the line way too many times.”

“Against Washington, our defense was pretty good. Tonight, we could have been better. They have good shooters, so we needed a better effort.”

“I think our confidence is low. We need to put our foot down and say this is enough. You start questioning yourselves. I always say, ?'If you play hard, good things will happen.’ Tonight, we played harder, but we didn’t execute defensively.”

“In the second half, we had a lot of second chances. We just couldn’t put it down or we thought we got fouled.”

“It’s hard. We want to be successful. We want to win. We just need to take care of ?'us’. We need to take care of some of our issues.”

Arizona sophomore guard Ashley Whisonant: “I think we came out and played hard. We learned a new offense and didn’t get into it during the game. We were confused at times. Our defense played pretty well. Sometimes we weren’t smart enough on offense and defense.”

“We were not communicating [on defense]. They scored a lot of points in transition. You have to pick up the open man in transition. We weren’t communicating very well in transition.”

“Everything we saw [during the game] we expected. [UW-Green Bay point guard Natalie Berglin] broke our press a lot. [Soulis] played good under the basket.”

“There is a lot of frustration at times. We need to try not to hold our heads down and play through it.”

Arizona sophomore forward Ch?© Oh: They were very patient against our press. You have to give them credit. They spread our court defensively and that’s exactly what we don’t want. They attacked our gaps and weak spots.”

On UW-Green Bay forward Nicole Soulis:

“She’s a great player. We watched film on her and she did more tonight than she showed on film. I thought our zone slowed her down a bit. She’s a rebounder and a shot-blocker. I give her credit for being able to step out and hit shots.”

“We need to refocus. We have Pac-10 games coming up that are crucial. We need to get two wins over USC and UCLA.”

“Look at the hand we were dealt [this year]. I think a lot of teams would have folded by now. We believe in ourselves. We’re not going to give up; We’re going to keep on fighting.”

UW Green-Bay Head Coach Kevin Borseth: “Obviously, we played well and we had to because Arizona is so athletic. We handled the [Arizona’s defensive] pressure well, and we scored. Those were the keys ?-handling their pressure and scoring. Unfortunately for Arizona, with the tragic loss of [Shawntinice Polk], not having her really affected the game. If Arizona had a big man inside, we would have really had to adjust our defensive approach.”

“Any time we win a game, we don’t care who it is against. Obviously, the Pac-10 is a strong conference, so it’s nice to come here and get a win against one of its teams, but then again it’s not conference play for us. Right now we just have to focus on conference play.”
