NCAA Volleyball Tournament First Round Texas-Arlington vs. Arizona Post Game Quotes

University of Texas-Arlington Head Coach Janine Smith "We are usually a better passing team, and we usually have a better digs to kills ratio. They (Arizona) capitalized on that tonight with us. They are a great team. My team fought as hard as they could. In games one and two, we were in it, but we didn't finish it off. In game three, they came out and played their game."

"When you're playing with a team that is 6 feet, 2 inches across the board and you're 6 feet across the board, everything needs to be on in order to beat those teams and frustrate them with your defense. That's been Arizona's weakness throughout the season. In the nights that they are on, they are on, and when they aren't, they are erring out."

Senior Outside Hitter Amber Pack "We didn't play our best game, which is kind of disappointing. I wish we could have gone out there and played a little bit better, but it just wasn't our night tonight. We did a pretty good job of showing that we can play with them, but it's just a matter of finishing."

"We just lost our focus for a little bit just like in our passing game. That's one of our strongest points. I had a few errors tonight on servicing and that killed us with all the little things. We weren't doing the things that we do best."

Sophomore Setter Heather Dunn "In game one, we came out a little nervous. In game two, we started out strong and didn't finish. In game three, we just came out and said 'we can play, we can do this. But we didn't finish it out again."

University of Arizona: Head Coach David Rubio "This was a big confidence-builder, and I thought we played well. It's nice to get one under our belt."

"It's hard to know what to expect sometimes with a young group during tournament time. You don't know how they will react and respond. That's one of the reasons why it was such an opportunity to play at home. When you are around your comfort zone and your familiar surroundings, it's good for the team."

"I thought Bre Ladd played a really outstanding match tonight. She was swinging well and playing aggressive, which is something she has been working on. We need to diversify our offense a little bit more, but I was pleased with how we played offsensively."

"I thought UTA played well. Defensively the scrapped and put a lot of balls up, but physically, they just aren't a match for us. Your mentality as an attacker is a lot different when you have small blockers as when you play a team like Texas. They have good size on their team. So, we are going to need really good from a passing standpoint."

"Texas is really physical. They are tall and lanky. They have a setter who distributes the ball well. They pass the ball very well. The offense if very diverse. So, we will have a challenge tomorrow."

"I think you rise to whatever level you have to rise to. Texas is very similar to us, so it will be a close match. It is a match that could go either way. We aren't taking them lightly."

Senior Outside Hitter Lisa Rutledge "I think every year is different. This year we are really young, and we did very well tonight and competed well. We fought hard. Every game is going to be different from year to year.

Freshman Middle Blocker/Outside Hitter Kim Glass "They (Texas-Arlington) were smaller, so it was easier to hit over them. I was happy with my hitting, but I wasn't happy with my passing. I was just off tonight and I'll make it up tomorrow.

"I think they were just a scrappy defensive team. It's difficult when you think you have a ball down and somebody else puts it up, but they had a pretty good defensive team."
