PALO ALTO, Calif.-Receiving subpar scores from two golfers for just the second time this season, Arizona combined to shoot a second-round score of 12-over-par 300 to remain in fourth place at the NCAA Women's Golf West Regional at Stanford Golf Course. Lorena Ochoa matched her opening-round score as she carded a second-round 70 to assume the individual lead at 4-under-par 140.

Arizona now trails tournament leader Pepperdine by 7 strokes as the Waves posted a second round of 303. UCLA and California are tied for second at 19-over-par 595.

Ochoa is in position to win her eighth tournament of the season, which would extend her NCAA record for most victories in a season. The mark would also increase her record for most career victories by an Arizona golfer. Ochoa currently has 11 career titles.

Senior Cristina Baena shot 1-under-par 71 Friday to post the best round of her career since October 20, 2000. The last time Baena shot under par also occurred at the Stanford Golf Course when she carded a 2-under 70 in the opening round of the 2000 Stanford/Pepsi Invitational. Baena is tied for 8th place at 3-over-par 147.

Laura Myerscough shot another round of 5-over-par 77 Friday and is at 10-over-par for the tournament. Myerscough is tied for 37th place. Arizona's duo of freshmen completed the lineup as Miriam Kraschinski and Mar Garcia carded rounds of 82 and 83, respectively. Kraschinski sits in 51st place, while Garcia occupies 67th place.

Action at the 2002 NCAA Women's Golf West Regional concludes Saturday, with tee-times beginning at 7:30 a.m. The top eight finishers and top two individuals in the regional tournament advance to the NCAA Championships in Auburn, Wash., on May 21-24.
