TUCSON, Ariz. - TCU went a combined seven under over its final two holes to take a seven stroke lead on what was otherwise an incredibly close contest. The Horned Frogs were led by Johan de Beer who is tied for first individually with Joakim Mikkelsen of Baylor at five-under.

TCU, Arizona and Texas exchanged the lead throughout the second round before TCU separated itself, and the three finished one, two, three for the day. At seven-under, TCU has an eight stroke lead over Arizona. The Horned Frogs have all five of their players in the top 20; the Wildcats have three. Texas and Baylor are also within striking distance at three and five-over, respectively. Cal and SMU are tied for fifth at eleven over.

Arizona's Tarquin MacManus was in first place for most of the day, at one time opening a five stroke lead, but the junior shot a five-over back-nine in the second round, and his bogeys at 17 and 18 dropped him out of the lead for the first time in the second round. As MacManus faded, Johan de Beer of TCU and Joakim Mikkelsen of Baylor capitalized and are now tied for the lead at five-under. Dylan Frittelli shot the best round of the day, a 67 (-6) in the second round to place third after day one. MacManus is in fourth at 141 (-3). Bryce Hanstad of Colorado State and Travis Woolf of TCU are tied for fifth.

Arizona has three players in the top-10. MacManus shot a 141 (-3) on the day, good enough for fourth place. Rich Saferian is tied for seventh at one under. Jonathan Khan finished the second round birdie, eagle to jump into a tie for tenth; the junior shot par for the day. Philip Bagdade is tied for 33rd. John Kostis, scheduled to compete for Arizona's "B" team, withdrew from the tournament due to a back injury.

The third round will get started with a shotgun-start tomorrow, March 18, at 8 a.m. (PST). The NIT is contested at the Omni Tucson National Golf Course, a par-72, 7,200 yard course.
