Wildcats Maintain Third Place Standing at Pac-10 Championships

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Arizona women's swimming and diving team remains in third place after three days of competition at the 2004 Pac-10 Championships with 821 points. Freshman Mary Yarrison took second place in the 1-meter diving competition with personal best score of 289.20.

In the 400-yard individual medley junior Emily Mason finished second posting an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 4:09.53. Junior Jessica Hayes placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:47.75) posting an NCAA consideration time.

Senior Jessica Wagner finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 1:01.80 and sophomore Erin Sieper finished sixth with an NCAA consideration time of 1:02.70.


In the 100-yard backstroke three Arizona swimmers posted NCAA consideration times. Marshi Smith took third place (54.55) Jessica Hayes was in fifth (55.13) and sophomore Ryann Hackett finished eighth (55.76). The 400-yard medley relay team of Jessica Hayes, Jessica Wagner, freshman Whitney Myers, and Marshi Smith earned third place honors posting an NCAA consideration time of 3:39.36.

For the men's Pac-10 diving competition senior Josh Anderson finished fourth with 552.15 points and sophomore John Collier was sixth with 521 points.

The 2004 Pac-10 Women's Swimming Championships conclude Saturday in Long Beach. Preliminaries start at 11 a.m. (PST) and finals begin at 6 p.m. The diving events are conducted at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Wash.
