The No. 2 softball team completed the third day of the USF-Louisville Slugger Tournament with a 6-0 win over Northwestern.
Freshman pitcher Alicia Hollowell led the way for the Cats. Hollowell struck out 12 batters and gave up two hits in seven inning pitched. The win marked the second shut out for Hollowell. She improves to 3-0 on the season.
The Cats went up 1-0 in the fourth inning when freshman Autumn Champion scored. Champion reached base with a single to the shortstop. Champion advanced to second by a sacrifice bunt by sophomore Courtney Fossatti and reached third when senior Lovie Jung grounded out to the third baseman. Champion eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Three of the Cats six runs came in the fifth inning. Junior Wendy Allen opened the inning with a home run to right field.
Allen scored a run in the sixth inning off an RBI-single to right field by sophomore Jackie Coburn. Coburn scored when senior Lisha Ribellia singled to center field.
Arizona ended the weekend with a 5-0 record. The Cats hit five home runs and had 22 RBI.
The Cats continue action Feb. 7-9, when they travel to Phoenix, Ariz. for the Fiesta Bowl Tournament, hosted by Arizona State.
