AUSTIN – The Arizona swimming and diving team’s concluded day one of it’s two-day dual meet against the Texas Longhorns on Friday. The men currently lead by the score of 103-83. The women trail Texas 107-77.
Both Arizona squads started Friday on a good note, winning each respective 200 freestyle relay. The Arizona “A” women’s team of Lara Jackson, Anna Turner, Lindsey Kelly and Taylor Baughman turned in a time of 1:30.59.
The men had arguably its best output as far as finishes are concerned, winning all but two events over the top-ranked Longhorns.
Jack Brown won the men’s 400 individual medley by the time of 3:48.35 followed by Austen Thompson second place time of 3:53.23. Brown has already earned an NCAA automatic qualifying time in the 400 IM during Arizona’s last trip to Austin for the Texas Invitational.
Other Arizona men’s winners include Nilo, who won the 100 freestyle with a time of 43.04, Jake Tapp taking the 200 backstroke in 1:45.65 followed by teammate Bryan O’Connor’s 1:45.96 and Tom Cole, who won the 200 breast in 1:58.64.
To cap the day for the men’s team, the team of Tapp, Marcus Titus, Nilo and Greenshields won the 400 medley relay in 3:11.52.
On the women’s side, Julie Stupp won the 200 breast in a time of 2:14.71 followed by teammate and Texas native Annie Chandler’s 2:16.43.
Freshman Alyssa Anderson continued her dominance of the 500 freestyle, winning the race and topping Texas’ Susana Escobar with a time of 4:44.33.
