SEATTLE, Wash. ?- The University of Arizona women’s soccer team fell to Washington, 3-2 in overtime, in a closely contested game. The Wildcats and Huskies both scored once in each half. Washington’s Melissa Beal scored seven minutes into the overtime to give the Huskies the win.
In the first half, the Huskies got out to an early lead on a goal at the 6:19 mark. Katy Dowling won the ball on the corner and it was deflected in. Shannon Dillon assisted on the goal. The Wildcats evened the score at the 34:32 mark when Jacqueline Broussard carried it from the baseline and passed to Jasmine Namdar who found the back of the net. This goal ended Arizona’s 482 minute scoring drought.
In the second half, Arizona took the lead in the 56th minute. Christina Hughes fed London King who then spun and was able to score from inside the box. Jenna Robison tied the score with a goal on the rebound of her penalty kick at the 73:07 mark.
In overtime, Beal gave the Huskies the sudden-victory. Beal beat a Wildcat defender and slipped a shot past sophomore goalkeeper Chelsea McIntyre.
McIntyre had five saves in the game while allowing the three Husky goals. Arizona had six shots in the game, three on goal. Washington had four yellow cards in the game and Arizona was given two.
Arizona, which fell to 8-9-2 on the season and 1-5-2 in the Pac-10. It will close out the Pac-10 at Washington State at 11 a.m. (PST) on Sunday, Nov. 5.
