Senior Jamie Holton has won a share of the floor title in each of the last two meets, against Stanford and Arizona State. The 5-5 native of Phoenix, Ariz., currently boasts a team-best 9.820 average on floor.
Hello GymCat fans:
Our last home meet was a very big one for us since it was against our in-state rival ASU.??We had yet another amazing week of practice going into the meet, and so we felt confident about our chances to not only win, but to get a great score as well.
?We started the meet with a great rotation on vault.??We had a new order on vault yet again since we have so many great vaulters on our team.? We were topped by Breeˇ?s amazing vault that I think was one of her best this year.? She ended up winning with a 9.875, and we had a great team score of 49.025.? We then went to bars and the bar competitors decided to give Bill a little scare during one-touch warm-up.? We started with a fall, but our determination let us finish the event 5-for-5, so we didnˇ?t have to count a fall.? Sarah was last in the line-up, and had some extra pressure on her because of the early fall, but she did amazing in the clutch by scoring a new career high score of 9.75.
Beam unfortunately wasnˇ?t so lucky.??We had 4 great routines and 2 not so great routines.? Beamer had the team high of 9.8, notching her 3rd place.? Danielle got a 9.775 with an amazing routine after some problems with her mount.? She actually had to changer her routine around because of that, and Iˇ?m convinced that she is probably one of the only people who could pull it off and make it look like nothing had happened out of the ordinary.? That is probably a good reason why she is ranked 10th in the nation on beam.?
After a pep-talk from Bill, we went to floor with a renewed focus of showing everyone what Arizona Gymnastics is all about.??After some small landing deductions on our first 2 routines, the last four girls on floor all scored above 9.8.? There was actually a three-way tie for first place on floor between me, Karin, and Cassandra Jusino of ASU.?
Even though we won the meet with a 195.000, we went into the meet wanting something much bigger.??We know that we are passed the halfway point of the season, and that it is now time to turn up the intensity.? We have some big competitions coming up, with three out of our last four regular-season meets being on the road.? This will only help our focus and determination going into the postseason!? Make sure to catch the last regular-season home meet on March 16th, as it will be senior night for me and Aubrey!? J ?
Until then, Bear Down and go GymCats!
