Liaw is tied for 10th place with a two-under 142
TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona men’s golf team posted a six-over-par total of 582 Monday to stand in seventh place after two rounds of the CordeValle Collegiate in San Martin, Calif.
Arizona carded totals of 292 (+4) and 290 (+2) over the 36 holes Monday and the squad’s 582 total (+6) put the team in seventh place. The Wildcats are 17 strokes off the pace set by tournament-leader UCLA, who posted an 11-under 565. Northwestern (568), Arkansas (575), Texas (579) and California (579) round out the top five places in the field of 16.
Leading the way for Arizona was junior Henry Liaw, who tallied a two-under 142 and is in a six-way tie for 10th place. Liaw collected an eagle and birdie on his last two holes of the second round to move to two-under. This is Liaw’s lowest 36-hole total in four events this season. Teammate Josh Esler is tied for 16th place after carding an even-par 72 in both rounds Monday.
Sophomores Travis Esway and Trey Denton find themselves one stroke apart on the leader board. Esway shot a four-over 148 and is tied for 37th place, while Denton tallied a five-over 149 and is tied for 41st place.
Freshman Nicholas Park is tied for 71st place at 154 (+10).
The 54-hole CordeValle Collegiate concludes tomorrow at CordeValle Country Club, a par-72, 7,119-yard layout.
