Tournament Leaderboard

TEMPE, Ariz. - Junior Alejandra Llaneza shot an even-par round of 72 to help Arizona into a tie for 8th place after the opening round of the PING/ASU Invitational, Friday afternoon at the Karsten Golf Course.

Llaneza is currently tied for 24th place overall after registering 16 pars, 1 birdie and 1 bogey for her round. She nearly carded a bogey-free round, but was tripped up with a bogey-5 on the 18th hole. As a team, the Wildcats shot 292 (+4).

Sophomores Nikki Koller and Margarita Ramos each shot 1-over rounds of 73 and are in a log-jam of players tied for 30th place on the individual leaderboard. Freshman Sherlyn Popelka carded an opening round tally of 74 to sit tied for 38th place while Isabelle Boineau was one shot behind her at 3-over par to share 47th place. Brittany Benvenuto competed as an individual and shot 76 for the day to tie for 55th.

Carlota Ciganda of Arizona State and Kristina Merkle of Tulsa share the individual lead after 18 holes at 4-under par while Jennifer Johnson of Arizona State and both Jennifer Song and Lizette Salas of USC are each one shot off the pace. The Sun Devils hold a two-shot lead over USC at 9-under par while Purdue is in 3rd place at 1-under par.

Arizona resumes play in the tournament with the second round on Saturday, April 10 at 8:00 a.m.
