TUCSON, Ariz.- Outside hitter Kim Glass garnered a pair of honors from the American Volleyball Coaches Association today. The first-year Wildcat was named to the 12-member All-Pacific Region Team and was also tabbed as the Pacific Region Freshman of the Year by the organiztion.
Glass, the 2002 Pacific-10 Conference Freshman of the Year, is the fourth Arizona player in the last four years to garner all-region honors from the AVCA. Former Wildcats Dana Burkholder and Jill Talbot were both recognized last season, while Burkholder, along with former teammate Marisa DaLee, was named all-region in 1999 and 2000. The Pacific Region Freshman of the Year Award is the first for any Wildcat player in school history.
Arizona's main offensive threat this year, Glass has posted 517 kills on .291 hitting while helping to guide the Wildcats to their fourth straight Sweet Sixteen appearance. She has already broken Barb Bell's freshman kills record and needs just four more to eclipse Terry Lauchner's school single season mark of 520.
Continuing their postseason run, the Wildcats will head to Palo Alto, Calif., to take on Minnesota in the Pacific Regional Semifinals of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday.
