TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona's McKale Center will host ESPN's College GameDay covered by State Farm on Saturday, Jan. 28, when the Wildcats host Washington in the Saturday Primetime game at 5 p.m. MST.
It marks the first time the network will bring its GameDay set to Tucson since debuting the format in January 2005, and just the third time that the Pac-12 Conference has hosted the hardwood event. Tucson is one of eight on-campus sites scheduled to host the ESPN crew during the 2011-12 basketball campaign.
The full day of programming begins with the ESPN College GameDay studio show covered by State Farm - featuring studio host Rece Davis and analysts Jay Bilas, Hubert Davis, Bob Knight and "Digger" Phelps - as it televises live from McKale Center. ESPNU will televise from 8-9 a.m. MST and ESPN will carry the show from 9-10 a.m.
Admission is free and open to the public with arena doors scheduled to open at 6 a.m. Free parking is available in the Cherry Street garage and surrounding surface lots. All fans can enter the building through the ZonaZoo entrance (northwest ground level doors).
Fans are encouraged to bring signs and their school spirit. Additionally, sign-making stations will be available on the concourse for fans who wish to make one inside the arena. State Farm will give five randomly selected fans $20 gift cards for displaying school spirit and creativity.
State Farm also will sponsor an on-air halfcourt shot promotion where one randomly selected fan in attendance will have a chance to win $18,000 by making a shot from halfcourt. He or she will receive $1,800 just for the attempt.
Further, State Farm staffers will be giving away 3,000 roll banners, 150 GameDay t-shirts, net headbands and hats, and 30 drawstring bags.
The GameDay set will be located at center court facing west. Sections 2-4 will serve as the primary seating areas.
The arena will be cleared following the morning presentation. Tickets are required for that day's one-hour pregame show in advance of the in-game telecast with Washington. Dan Shulman, Bilas and Knight will handle the call from courtside.
All fans are asked to wear white to the game, as the contest has been tabbed as a whiteout promotion.
