Liaw and Tyler post top-20 individual finishes
TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona’s men’s golf team tallied the third-lowest round of the day Tuesday and finished in seventh place at the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge at Bandon Dunes Golf Course in Bandon, Ore.
Arizona’s 10-over-par 298 total in Tuesday’s final round equaled the third-lowest round of the day and moved the Wildcats two spots up the leader board. UA finished the rain-shortened event in seventh place with a 36-hole total of 605 (+29). Minnesota claimed team honors by virtue of a fifth-score tiebreaker over USC. Both teams finished with 20-over-par totals of 596. UCLA (598), Arizona State (601) and Northwestern (602) rounded out the top-five places in the field of 14.
Arizona was led by sophomore Henry Liaw, who collected his second consecutive top-10 finish. Liaw carded an even-par 72 en route to a two-round total of 146 (+2) and a tie for seventh place.
Also posting a top-20 finish for the Wildcats was sophomore Nathan Tyler. He carded a one-over 73 and finished the event in a tie for 18th place at 151 (+7). It was Tyler’s first top-20 finish of the season.
Freshman Travis Esway shot a four-over 76 Tuesday and finished tied for 28th place at 153 (+9). Senior Nathan Lashley tied for 41st place with an 11-over 155 total, while senior Nick Juszczak tied for 57th place after carding a 16-over 160 total.
The inaugural Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge was contested at Bandon Dunes Golf Course, a par 72, 7,040-yard layout.
Arizona will next be in action, Nov. 14-16, at the CGAA Collegiate Match Play Championship in Orlando, Fla.
