Arizona (8-13) will meet top-seeded Florida (27-1) on Sunday, May 16 at 2 p.m. in Gainesville. The winner of that match moves on to the NCAA round of 16, which also will be hosted by the University of Florida beginning on May 20.
The Gators topped Bethune-Cookman 5-0 in their first round match on Saturday. Auburn's season ends with a 10-12 overall record.
"I see the next round as an opportunity," Arizona coach Stephanie London said. "I don't consider any team invincible. We've got to take one through six and one through three on doubles with our athletes playing their best tennis. If they don't all show up it will be a rough day, but if we do I think it could be a pretty good day."
The Wildcats won several close sets to secure the victory. A total of seven sets in the six matches were decided by scores of 7-5 or 7-6.
"Today was good for us," London said. "We pulled out a lot of tough matches after not playing for a few weeks so I think that will get us in match shape for tomorrow."
"It was a very close match. There were about four matches that could have gone either way," Auburn coach Troy Porco said. "We played very tight with all of them, but just came out on the short and of the stick today. They were a little bit stronger on the big points and that was the difference in the match."
Auburn's lone victory of the day came at the No. 1 position, where Andrea Piski defeated Lindsay Blau 6-1, 6-1 to spot the Tigers a quick 1-0 lead in the team competition. But everything after that match went the Wildcat's way, with senior Monique Allegre providing the clinching team point with a 7-6 (4), 0-6, 7-5 victory over Simone Jardim at No. 2.
