TUCSON, Ariz. ?C After the first day of a two day event, the No. 2 Arizona menˇ?s swimming and diving team leads No. 1 Texas 103-83.
Starting the Wildcats off with a win in the 200 yard free relay was the team of Albert Subirats, Jordan Smith, Darian Townsend and Nicholas Nilo. The teamˇ?s time was 1:20.39. ˇ?The relay teams did a good job today,ˇ± said coach Busch, ˇ?Iˇ?m real happy with that.ˇ± Finishing in second place was Texas team of Matthew McGinnis, Matthew Lowe Jeremy Harris and Ricky Berens with a time of 1:21.15.?
In the 400 yard IM, Arizonaˇ?s Cory Chitwood finished in second placed with a time of 3:53.40. Finishing in first place was Michael Klueh of Texas with a time of 3:52.32. The next event of the day was the 100 yard free. Texasˇ? Matthew McGinnis finished in first place (44.44). Following McGinnis were two Cats, Subirats (44.69) and Townsend (44.74).
Arizonaˇ?s Chitwood continued his good day with a first place finish in the 200 yard backstroke (1:45.71). Finishing behind Chitwood was Daniel Rohleder of Texas with a time of 1:46.72.
Arizona took two of the top three spots in the 200 yard breaststroke when Josh Arreguin (2:00.22) finished in first place and Bart Steninger (2:03.35) came in third place.
The next event of the afternoon was the 100 yard butterfly where Arizonaˇ?s Subirats finished in first place with a time of 48.14. In the 500 yard free, Jean Basson came finished in second place (4:29.59) while teammate Matt Biel finished in third place with a time of 4:30.26.
Arizona continued their dominance in the relays when the team of Subirats, Arreguin, Townsend and Nilo came in first place (3:13.26) in the 400 yard medley relay.
In the 3 meter dive, Arizonaˇ?s Matt Bisordi finished in first with a score of 353.18. Matt Cooper of Texas came in second (330.90). On the 1 meter dive, Bisordi finished in third place with 321.89 points.
Up Next: The Wildcats and Longhorns will swim the second session tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. The event will be at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center.
