In the second game of a two game series, Arizona softball beats Oregon, 8-1 in Eugene Oregon. The Cats improve to 38-5 and 7-1 in the Pac-10.
Pitcher Jenny Gladding struckout seven batters and only allowed two hits to improve her season record to 16-4. Arizona's first run came in the fifth inning when Gladding hit a home run to right field.
In the sixth inning, with freshman Carrie Hagen on second base, freshman Jackie Coburn singled to right field to bring Hagen home. Freshman Allyson Von Liechtenstein pinch ran for Coburn. Von Liechtenstein advanced on a passed ball. Freshman Candace Abrams singled and Von Liechtenstein advanced to third. Gladding grounded out to pitcher and Von Liechtenstein scored.
The Cats next five runs came in the top of the seventh inning. Junior Lovie Jung singled to center field and advanced to second off of a single by freshman Courtney Fossatti. Both advanced when sophomore Leneah Manuma grounded out to Oregon pitcher, Connie McMurren. Finch reached base when she was intentionally walked. Jung scored when sophomore Mackenzie Vandergeest was walked. With the bases loaded, Coburn hit her 10th home run and her third grand slam of the seaon. She ended the day 3-for-3 with five RBI.
The Cats next road trip takes them to Oklahoma where they will face Oklahoma State on Tuesday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. and face Oklahoma on Wednesday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m.
