New Haven , Conn. ??C The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced its Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for games ending November 17.
About the Award: ?It is the fourth consecutive year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national ˇ?Bowl Subdivision Player of the Week.ˇ± Selections are made each week during the regular season by a panel of national media members and publicized by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ANTOINE CASON, ARIZONA
Senior, Defensive Back, Long Beach, CA/Los Alamitos HS
Senior defensive back Antoine Cason had seven solo tackles, broke up five passes and had an interception which he returned 42 yards for a touchdown as Arizona upset second-ranked Oregon, 34-24. Cason also returned a punt 56 yards for a score to lead the Wildcats (5-6, 4-4 in Pac10).
Oregon was the highest-ranked visitor to lose at Arizona since the Wildcats knocked off No. 1 Washington on Nov. 7, 1992.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JEREMY MACLIN, MISSOURI
Freshman, Wide Receiver/Kick Returner, Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood HS
Freshman wide receiver/kick returner Jeremy Maclin scored three touchdowns and set a Missouri singlegame record with 360 allpurpose yards as the sixth- ranked Tigers defeated Kansas State, 49-32. Maclin caught nine passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns (8 and 44 yards) and added a 99-yard kickoff return for a score to lead Missouri (10-1, 6-1 in Big 12).
Walter Camp, ˇ?The Father of American football,ˇ± first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp ?C a former Yale University athlete and football coach ?C is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation ?C a New Haven-based all-volunteer group ?C was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting annually an All-America team.
