Interim Head Coach Russ Pennell

On the night's loss:

"It's all a part of basketball. No one is going to feel sorry for you. We have to just go out there tomorrow and get better for a good Houston team this weekend. The team has to rally around each other and pull together to get a win."

"If we don't play hard, we have no chance at winning, though playing hard doesn't necessarily guarantee a win. If there isn't any effort, there is no chance at winning, especially in a conference like the Pac-10."

On starting Sophomre Zane Johnson:

"Zane played well against USC, so I decided to start him. He gives us some good size to go against the zone. He's been very good on defense, and is helpful in getting the ball to Chase (Budinger) and Jordan (Hill). Zane had some good looks, and was shooting well in practice, but he just couldn't get the ball in the basket tonight."

"Our bench has improved a lot, and I felt more confident in putting them in for more minutes tonight. We're getting tired, and bench players like Fendi Onobun gave us some good energy."

Arizona Player Quotes

Junior Forward Chase Budinger

On the foul on Harden near the end of the game:

"I drove to the basket. I think he was just trying to make a play on the defensive end. He came down on me and we got tangled up. He hit the ground pretty hard."

On the slow nature of the game:

"We know coming in that it was going to be like that. Both teams were going to play zone and it was going to be a slow down game. We concentrated on moving the ball around and getting open looks. The last couple days in practice we worked on rotating on offense. We did a better job of that tonight. We got our forwards moving well through the offense."

On the first half struggles for both teams:

"In the first half both teams were playing poorly and shooting poorly. We missed opportunities during the first half to grab a larger lead and get some momentum going into the second half."

Junior Forward Jordan Hill

On the illegal screen called on him near the end of the game:

"I don't think it was a foul, but the refs called it and you have to do what they say. I just went out there and tried to finish strong. I played my heart out."

On his second half improvements/adjustments:

"I started attacking more. I started posting deeper, turn around and attack. In the first half I wasn't doing that. I just tried to look across the floor for our shooters. I picked up my effort and tried to attack the basket more."

On the team's performance tonight:

"We stopped them on the defensive end and Coach Pennell gave us props for that. We played real hard. ASU is a real good team that scores a lot of points and we held them to 53. If we keep playing that hard, the sky's the limit. It was an off night shooting the ball, but every team doesn't shoot well every night."

Looking ahead:

"There are still more games to go. We still have a lot of learning to do. We still have a lot of young fellas who are still learning the game and they're getting a lot of minutes. We just have to keep working hard. We have to practice on our off time. We just have to get better every day."
