Day One of Arizona Diving Invite Positive for Wildcats

TUCSON, Ariz. 68 divers from 13 schools competed in the opening day of the Arizona Diving Invite at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center on Friday, which held the men’s 1m and women’s 3m championships.

Three Arizona men found themselves competing in the final round. Sophomore Carter Craft led the way for the Cats, placing third with his score of 319.05. Freshman Rafael Quintero was not far behind with his score of 313.6 and was able to take fifth. After scoring well in the preliminaries, sophomore Josh Bidak was able to squeeze into the finals. Bidak placed eighth with his score of 303.55.

The women’s 3m championship was won by freshman Morgan Weller of Arizona State with her score of 313.90. No Arizona women made the final round, but senior Ashley Herrera got first place in the women’s consolation final, scoring a 273.75.

The Arizona Diving Invite will continue at noon, Saturday, Nov. 17 at Hillenbrand Aquatic Center. Saturday’s events include the men’s 3m championship and the women’s 1m championship. The women’s swim team will also compete Saturday at the same time when they take on Boise State. The Arizona Diving Invite will then wrap up on Sunday, Nov. 18. Admission for all days of the events is free.
