TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's swimming and diving team will take 15 swimmers to the NCAA Championships in Minneapolis in two weeks. The three-day meet will run from March 24-26.
The 15 swimmers for Arizona are: senior Ivan Tolic, juniors Cory Chitwood, Kevin Munsch, Cameron Owen, Nimrod Shapira Bar-Or, Adam Small, Austen Thompson, A.J. Tipton, Kelley Wyman, sophomore Carl Mickelson and freshmen Matt Barber, Mitchell Friedemann, Tommy Gutman, Ellis Miller, and Michael Sheppard.
The team is loaded with experienced swimmers including eight who have previously earned All-America distinction. Leading the team is Chitwood who last season for the NCAA championship in the 200 backstroke and ranks highly in the 100 back, 200 back and 200 I.M. Also figuring heavily into UA's plans is Shapira Bar-Or who will swim in possibly six events.
The men will be trying for its sixth top four finish in the last seven seasons. The meet will also mark head coach Frank Busch's final meet with Arizona as he will resign his position to take over as USA Swimming's National Team Director in May.
There is also a chance UA could add diver to its NCAA lineup after the Zone E Diving qualifications this week. Both Andres Guerra and Sean Clark will be vying for a spot on the team.
