LAS CRUCES--The Arizona women's tennis team had its ups and downs in the second day of the Miner Fall Invite in Las Cruces.
In Flight B singles, senior Ariane Masschelein defeated New Mexico State's Natalia Salum 7-5, 6-3 in the semifinal round and will take on New Mexico State's Ginet Pinero, who defeated sophomore Debora Castany 6-1, 6-4 in the other semifinal match of their bracket. Castany will take on Salum in the 3/4 Place match Sunday at 9am.
In Flight C singles, freshman Shannon Cassidy lost to UTEP's Austin Lavallii 6-0, 6-3 in the semifinal round. Cassidy will play in the 3/4 Place match Sunday at 9am against UTEP's Carla Murguia.
In Flight B doubles, Masschelein and Castany won their semifinal round match against UTEP's Ximena Fuentes and Austin Lavallii, winning 8-5. Sunday at 9am, the Wildcats will take on UTEP's Marina Deluca and Veronika Makashov in the championship match. Deluca and Makashov defeated Cassidy, who was paired with UTEP's Carla Murguia in the lower half of the Flight B bracket. Cassidy and Murguia will take on Fuentes and Lavallii in the 3/4 Place match tomorrow at 9am.
