Palm Springs, Calif. ?- The Arizona men’s tennis team completed the first-day of competition at the 2005 NCTC invitational, in Palm Springs, Calif. Friday. Arizona sent two competitors, senior Colin O’Grady and No. 58 Roger Matalonga.
Matalonga began singles action by defeating Ben Harknett, of Rice University, 6-1, 6-3. Following Matalonga, O’Grady fell in a tough match to Tigran Martirosyan, of the University of Kentucky, 6-1, 6-1. In today’s action, Matalonga defeated Darrin Cohen, of the University of Virginia, 6-2, 6-0.
Late yesterday afternoon, O’Grady and Matalonga defeated Doug Stewart and Cohen, of Virgina, 8-3.
The two Wildcats continue action this afternoon as Matalonga is set to compete in semifinal action later this afternoon. Also, O’Grady is set to face off in his consolation match, currently in progress.
Matalonga and O’Grady will also continue action in doubles competition. In action back home, the Wildcat’s are set to host Northern Arizona University in the first home match of the season with first serve at 1:30 p.m. (MST)
