TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona women's tennis team competed against No. 11 USC. Although match time was set for 12:00 p.m., the match was delayed for two hours to allow the courts to dry after last night's rain. Once the match started, Arizona lost two of three doubles matches and four of six singles matches for the overall loss, 5-2.

In doubles action, juniors Maja Mlakar and Dianne Hollands were the first to complete their match. The juniors played in the first position against USC's team of Luana Magnani and Carine Vermuelen and won, 8-4. The next match to finish came on court 2. Junior Kelly Perry and senior Debbie Larocque fell to the team of Anca Anastasiu and Dianne Matias, 8-6. A match between Arizona's duo of freshman Jessie Rochefort and sophomore Iza Ferreira and USC's pair of Judy Devera and Bernadene Bavani then decided the doubles point. Both teams were forced to come from behind at some point in the match. The close match eventually ended in a tiebreak where USC's Devera and Bavani won, 9-8.

Later in the afternoon junior Dianne Hollands competed against USC's Luana Magnani. Magnani fell behind 6-0 early and was forced to retire in the middle of the match. Freshman Jessie Rochefort was the second Wildcat to complete her match. She easily defeated USC's Bernadene Bayani in the sixth position, 6-2, 6-1. On court 2, junior Maja Mlakar fell to Carine Vermuelen, 6-1, 7-5. Freshman Kasia Jakowlew played in the fourth position and was unable to defeat USC's Anca Anastasiu. Junior Kelly Perry played on court five and fell to Judy Devera, 7-5, 6-3. The final match of the afternoon to be completed came on court three. Senior Debbie Larocque was unable to win against Anca Anastasiu.

The Wildcats will take some time away from competition. Arizona's next match will come on Saturday March 27 at 3:00 p.m. The Cats will welcome No. 14 Fresno State. The match will take place at the Wildcats home facility, the Lanelle Robson Tennis Center.
