TUCSON, Ariz.- The No. 16 Arizona volleyball team closed out its 2002 Pac-10 season with just the second season series sweep against perennial Pac-10 power UCLA in school history.
The Wildcats rallied to down the No. 21 Bruins 3-1 in Los Angeles on Friday to hand Arizona (16-10, 11-7 Pac-10) its second win of the season over UCLA (16-13, 9-9 Pac-10). Game scores were 32-34, 30-21, 30-21, 30-28. The Wildcats completed the Pac-10 season tied for third with Washington State in the conference standings behind champions USC and second-place Stanford.
Senior Lisa Rutledge and freshman Kim Glass teamed up to help Arizona over come the early 1-0 deficit. The pair combined for 45 of Arizona's 67 kills in the match.
Rutledge recorded her second career 20-20 match with 22 kills and 21 digs on the night. The performance was just the 19th 20-20 match in school history. Glass added 23 kills and a career-high 18 digs in the win.
Freshman Bre Ladd finished the match with seven total blocks, including a career-high three solo stuffs, and nine kills for the Wildcats.
Arizona will close out its 2002 regular season next weekend on the road with a pair of non-conference matches against Brigham Young in Provo, Utah, on Friday and No. 24 Utah in Salt Lake City on Saturday.
