WALNUT CREEK, Calif. ?- Arizona women’s tennis players Dianne Hollands and Stephanie Balzert have been named to the Pac-10 All-Academic Team, which was recently announced by commissioner Tom Hansen. Hollands, a senior, was a first team selection, while the junior Balzert was an honorable mention pick.
Hollands, a native of Dunedin, New Zealand, carried a 3.77 grade-point average as an English major. She advanced to the round of 32 in the NCAA Singles Championships after defeating Ashlee Davis of Wake Forest, 6-1, 6-2, in the round of 64.
In doubles competition, Hollands reached the round of 16 with Maja Mlakar at the NCAA Doubles Championships. She compiled career records of 101-56 in singles and 77-36 in doubles.
A native of Puetlinger, Germany, Balzert boasts a 3.500 GPA as a Spanish major. She finished her first season with the Cats with an 18-18 singles record.
To be eligible for selection to the Pac-10 All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor.
