On Friday, the Wildcats host No. 55 Stanford (3-9) at 1:30 p.m. The following day, March 31, at noon, <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Arizona</st1:State></st1:place> plays No. 48 Cal-Berkeley. All of the doubles matches were close, but ultimately <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Arizona</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">State</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> was able to sweep and capture a one-point advantage heading into singles. The lone Wildcat win came from freshman <A href="http://www.arizonaathletics.com/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=8453&amp;SPID=531&amp;DB_OEM_ID=1600&amp;ATCLID=235320"></A><A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=235320"><A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=235320">Alex Labrosse</A></A> at the No. 6 spot. Labrosse defeated ASU&rsquo;s Murilo Souza in a match decided by a tiebreaker after the players split the first two sets. Labrosse lost the first set 6-1, before bouncing back and pulling out the second 6-4. The dual was close, with each team winning three singles matches. The Cardinals, however, were able to initially win the pivotal doubles point, which gave them the 4-3 victory.<o:p></o:p></SPAN></FONT></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Arial"><o:p><FONT size=2> </FONT></o:p></SPAN></P> <P class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><FONT size=2><B style="mso-bidi-font-weight: normal"><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Arial">Scouting the Cardinals: </SPAN></B><SPAN style="COLOR: black; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">The Cardinals entered the season ranked No. 9, but were unable to live up to those lofty expectations, losing their first six matches of the spring season.</SPAN><SPAN style="FONT-FAMILY: Arial"> They then reeled off three victories in a row, including wins over both <st1:State w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Arizona</st1:place></st1:State> and ASU. Since then, Stanford has lost their last three. After winning their first three matches of the spring season, the Golden Bears dropped their next four. They then proceeded to win their next six before dropping two last week. The Wildcats ended their tournament schedule on a high note as <A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=80014"><A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=80014">Bruno Alcala</A></A> and <A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=80019"><A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=80019">Claudio Christen</A></A> teamed up to reach the semifinals of the ITA West Regional Championships. The team&rsquo;s only sophomore, <st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Tucson</st1:place></st1:City>&rsquo;s own <A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=80020"><A class=ARTICLELINK href="/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=80020">Peter Zimmer</A></A>, compiled the best record through the fall at 7-3. In the current rankings USC ranks the highest among Pac-10 teams at No. 9. Perennial powerhouse UCLA is not far behind at No. 11, with <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:State w:st="on">Washington</st1:State></st1:place> next at No. 30. Cal-Berkeley and <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:PlaceName w:st="on">Arizona</st1:PlaceName> <st1:PlaceType w:st="on">State</st1:PlaceType></st1:place> are at No. 48 and No. 54, respectively.
