NCAA Swimming Day One Prelim Results?

COLUMBUS , Ohio -?The Arizona swimming and diving team started the NCAA Championships with 10 qualifiers for the evening finals while setting a pool record in the 400 medley relay.

?

The Wildcats began the morning with the 200 free relay of juniors Lara Jackson, Lindsey Kelly and Taylor Baughman and freshman Emma Darlington posting a second-seeded time of 1:28.21.

?

Arizona dominated the prelims in the 50yd free, qualifying three swimmers for the event finals. Jackson earned the second seed in the event, while senior teammates Lacey Nymeyer and Anna Turner were close behind in fourth and fifth place to advance to tonightˇ?s finals.

?

In a swim-off for a spot in the consolation final, UAˇ?s Baughman beat Wisconsinˇ?s Jackie Vavrek to earn her another swim tonight.

The 200 IM was led by junior Hailey DeGolia, who swam a 1:57.49 and qualified for this eveningˇ?s finals. Sophomores Jenny Forster and Annie Chandler slipped into the consolation finals tying for 15th place.

The morning session culminated in the Wildcats breaking the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilionˇ?s record in the 400 medley relay. The team consisting of junior Justine Schluntz, Chandler, sophomore Ana Agy and Turner earned the top seed for tonightˇ?s final.

In todayˇ?s distant event, sophomore Leone Vorster qualified for eventˇ?s consolation final with an 11th-place finish in the 500 free.

ˇ?The girlˇ?s did a really great job this morning qualifying a bunch of girls for finals. We are looking forward to tonightˇ?s swims,ˇ± said head coach Frank Busch.

The Wildcats will be back in action this evening at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion starting at 7:00pm EDT.
