Arizona vs. Fort Lewis College
Nov. 11, 2005
Head Coach Joan Bonvicini: “This was not bad tonight. I thought our first half defensive intensity could have been better improved. Our defensive style is to wear teams down. We create turnovers from the press and the pressure wears them out."
"Tonight we had 16 steals against 12 turnovers, which is always good."
"I thought we were unselfish and got good steals. We forced steals and took 27 more shots than Fort Lewis.”
“When Natalie is in a groove, that just makes our team a whole lot better. Her confidence is up.”
Senior Guard Natalie Jones: “It’s about me being confident in my shooting. I worked hard individually on shooting the three. It was a lot of repetitions and technical stuff.”
“It’s very important for us (to be able to hit perimeter shots). When teams scout us, they know we’re so athletic and like to drive a lot. We have to shoot the three well as a team.”
“Early on, we rushed things a lot. That was not in our game plan. We let the game get to us. Coach B always tells us to not rush things and let the game come to us.”
“I have confidence knowing that I don’t have to be the leading scorer all the time. I just need to do the things to help the team win.”
“We feed off our defense. Steals and blocked shots all lead to more offensive possessions. Great defense leads to great offense for us.”
“We have to bring it every game from here on out. We can’t have any more ups and downs. We have to execute every game.”
Sophomore Guard Ashley Whisonant: “I was just trying to let the game come to me. I relaxed more than the other night. I was more comfortable playing.”
“We’re a small team, so we have to keep a fast pace. We really rely on pressure defense.”
