Vote for Burns and Guilmet
TUCSON, Ariz. - Former Arizona baseball pitchers Cory Burns and Preston Guilmethave been nominated for MiLBY Awards as the top relief prospect as their respective levels of minor league baseball. The MiLBY Awards are recognition of the season's top performances as determined by MiLB.com and voted on by fans.
Cory Burns, an Eastern League All-Star with the Akron Aeros, led all Double-A pitchers with 35 saves in 37 chances; the right-hander struck out 70 and finished with a 2.11 ERA. Burns was drafted out of Arizona by the Celveland Indians in the 8th round following the 2009 season.
Guilmet, a closer for the Kinston Indians, is nominated as the top relief pitcher among all Advanced-A bullpen arms. Guilmet finished the season with a 2.16 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 58 1/3 innings. The All-Star closer notched 35 saves, more than any other Class A Advanced reliever. Guilmet, the 2007 Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year, was drafted out of Arizona by the Cleveland Indians in the 9th round following the 2009 season.
