National & International Competition: 2001 - Placed third on both boards while with the USA All-Star Team in Amsterdam.

Prep: Lettered all four years in diving at Scottsdale's Chaparral High School... Team captain as a sophomore and a senior... Chosen as the team's Most Valuable Athlete her junior and senior years... First team All-Arizona and all-city as a senior... First team All-American her final three years after garnering honorable mention All-America laurels as a freshman... Team finished first at regionals and third at the state championships her senior year... Set a school record in 2002 with an 11-dive score of 476.85 on the one-meter... State and regional champion on the one-meter as a senior... National Honor Society member... Also competed for the Clavadistas del Sol club team out of Scottsdale... Named to the Arizona All-Star Team from 1997-2001 in club competition...

Personal: Born Shaina Loy Meland on June 3, 1985, in Rochester, Minn.... Daughter of Noren and Susan Meland... Has one older sister, Angela, and two younger sisters, Jessica and Tessa...Wants to pursue a degree in sports medicine/physical therapy because she love sports and wants to help people recover so they can return to their own sports... Says she chose the University of Arizona because of "the diving program, and it's a good school for the medical field."
