TUCSON--Eastern Michigan's Christie Koester singled in the winning run in eight-inning tie-breaker format to beat Long Beach State 6-5 in first day action of Arizona's Hillenbrand Invitational softball tournament.

Earlier, EMU (3-7) blew a three-run lead. The game was marred by six errors, four by the Eagles.
The 49ers scored an unearned run in the first when Natalie Walker's single got past EMU rightfielder Lauren Allen and allowed her to reach third, followed by an RBi single by Jamie Farnworth.
Kristen Zabalavicius hit a solo home run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game, then LBSU (15-6) scored another unearned run on a ground-ball RBI by Panita Thanantharn.
Eastern Michigan took a 3-2 lead with a two-run single by Genny Hann in the second, then added two more runs, both unearned, on an infield throwing error. But, the 49ers came up with a three-runs -- all unearned -- in the fifth to tie the game.
