Arizona Women’s Golf in First Place at the Stanford Pepsi Intercollegiate


PALO ALTO, Calif. ?- The Arizona women’s golf team finished the first day of the Stanford Pepsi Intercollegiate on Friday seven strokes ahead of the competition with a total score of 277 (-7).


The Wildcats played a strong first round, with two players standing in the top ten after 18 holes of the tournament.


Junior Alison Walshe is tied for first after carding a four-under 67, closely followed by teammate sophomore Adriana Zwanck, who totaled a three-under par 68 in the first round.


Junior Mary Jacobs and Sophomore Amanda Wilson are both tied for 12th after shooting an even-par 71.


Freshman Brittany Benvenuto is tied for 70th after shooting an 83 (+12) in her first collegiate appearance.


The Wildcats are followed by Georgia, who finished the day at an even-par 284.  Host Stanford is in third after completing the first round of play with a total of 286 (+2).


The tournament is being held at the Stanford Golf Course, which is a par-71, 5,985 yard course.


The tournament continues tomorrow, with a scheduled second round tee time of 8:40am.
