Four players scored in double figures to lead Arizona women’s basketball in a 71-50 rout of CSU Bakersfield on Friday night in Bakersfield, Calif.

Senior guard Davellyn Whyte (Phoenix, Ariz.) posted 16 points, senior forward Cheshi Poston (Chicago, Ill.) scored 14, junior forward Alli Gloyd (Phoenix, Ariz.) had 11 and freshman Keyahndra Cannon (San Diego, Calif.) added 10.

Poston also had 11 rebounds and six blocks to record her first-career double-double.

In addition, junior forward Erica Barnes (Sacramento, Calif.) grabbed 12 rebounds and nine points.

Arizona out-rebounded CSUB, 62-41 and forced 26 Roadrunner turnovers in the game.

“The first game of the season is under our belt now and we feel good about how hard we played,” Arizona head coach Niya Butts said. “We still turned the ball over a little too much, but we did a better job of rebounding the basketball, so I’m happy with that.”

In the first half, Arizona outscored CSUB in the paint, 22-10 to take a 34-27 lead.

Poston grabbed five rebounds in the first half to give the Wildcats a 26-19 rebounding edge in the first half. She also had eight points, while Gloyd added nine.

UA came out blazing in the second half on a 15-1 run in the first four minutes. The Roadrunners never overcame the deficit and Arizona finished them off, 71-55.

Tyonna Outland led CSUB with 13 points, seven rebounds and two steals.

Arizona will be back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at UNLV. Game time is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. MST.
