Day Seven Intrasquad- The visiting gray team jumped out to an early 4-2 lead in the seventh day of fall ball and added three more in the final inning to win 7-2. The seven inning contest had a number of highlights, including Clayton Bried's 4-for-4, four RBI performance, Joe Little's four innings of three hit ball and a number of fundamentally sound plays both at the plate and in the field.
After doubling to lead off the game for the grays, Bried scored in the first on Brian Anderson's single to left off of white starter Marc Kaiser. The white team answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning, but three hits, a walk and a hit bats man led to three runs in the top of the second for the Gray team. Leading the way was Bried, who drove home Justyn St. Clair and walk-on Mike Wilcox on a one out single to to left.

The white team answered with a run in the fourth. Moises Duran led off the bottom of the inning with a double to right-center, advanced to third on a ground ball hit behind him by Rich Mercado and scored on a 6-3 ground out. The run earned praise from Coach Lopez who recognized the sound fundamentals of Mercado's hitting to advance Duran to third.

Neither team could must much offense from there until the seventh, when the gray team scored three runs, only one of which was earned, off of Ken Riley. Newcomer John Hardy laced a one-out triple to right-center and scored on a sac-fly off the bat of St. Clair. After a walk and a hit hit batter, Bried delivered again with a two-out, two RBI single to left to finish the scoring.

Quoting Coach: "We're getting better. We're executing much better. The thing I'm most pleased about is that we are now playing hard on every pitch on both sides."

What Happened Yesterday: The coaching staff held walk-on tryouts after the regular practice session. A group of 30-35 hopefuls showed up, and from that group two were able to earn a spot in fall practice. Mike Wilcox, who played in the intrasquad game on Tuesday, and Kevin Anderson will join the Wildcats on the field.

Up Next: The Cats will play their sixth intrasquad game tomorrow (Wednesday) before taking a break from play on Thursday with a regular practice session.
