Practice for the 2004-05 season begins at the stroke of midnight Oct. 16
TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona men’s and women’s basketball teams will open practice for the 2004-05 season with another installment of Midnight Madness. The festivities in McKale Center begin Friday, Oct. 15, with free admission beginning at 9:30 p.m. PDT.
In addition to the first official practice for the Wildcat men and women, fans will be treated to an evening of non-stop entertainment, including t-shirt and poster give-aways, a player autograph session and an address from head coach Lute Olson. Additionally, five players will participate in “Pipe Dream,” where they take turns describing the action on five different sports highlight reels in an effort to impress a panel of celebrity judges.
Wells Fargo is sponsoring a “Bucks for Buckets” promotion where a UA student will win $500 and Alltel is sponsoring the “Drop the ROCK $10,000 Shot” contest in which randomly selected contestants will have the opportunity to win $10,000.
Following player introductions, there will be a three-point shooting and dunk contest, followed by a 20-minute scrimmage.
The program will be hosted by Tucson native Zach Selwyn, best known as a finalist in ESPN’s “Dream Job” last season and as a color commentator for the Game Show Network’s Extreme Dodgeball.
Fans interested in getting the best seats are invited to attend that evening’s Arizona volleyball match. The 21st-ranked Wildcats host Washington State at 8 p.m. For tickets, contact the McKale Center Ticket Office at (520) 621-2287.
Parking for both events will be free to the general public in the Cherry Ave. garage and in all university lots surrounding McKale Center.
Arizona returns 10 squadmen from last season’s 20-10 club that advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 20th consecutive season.
