This Week: The second-ranked Arizona women's golf team travels to Stanford, Calif., to take part Stanford/Pepsi Intercollegiate, Oct. 22-24, at the Stanford Golf Course. The UA is the defending champion of this tournament after winning it last fall. That win would be the first of four titles the Cats claimed during the 1998-99 season on the way to their fourth place finish at the NCAA Championships. This weekend's action is Arizona's first tournament in a month after winning the Dick McGuire Invitational back on Sept. 23-25.

The Format: The 54-hole event will consist of 18 holes each day -- Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday's action will get underway at 8 a.m. for the Wildcats and they will be paired with Pepperdine and San Jose State.

The Field: The field will include 10 of the nation's top-25 teams, according to the MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings... Leading the way is No. 2 Arizona, followed by No. 4 Arizona State, No. 5 Stanford, No. 9 UCLA, No. 10 Oregon, No. 14 New Mexico State, No. 19 San Jose State, No. 23 Washington, NO. 24 Oregon State, Texas A&M, California, Texas Tech, Washington State, Indiana and Southern Methodist.

UA's Last Action: Arizona won its first tournament of the season by claiming the Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. on Sept. 25. The Cats won the tourney by 16 strokes with a 4-over-par 880 total, finishing ahead of New Mexico and USC, who tied for second at 896. Jenna Daniels entered the final round tied for first, but placed second with a 3-under-par 216, finishing one shot behind TCU's Angela Stanford, who was first at 4-under-par 215. Freshman Cristina Baena placed seventh with an even-par 219 total, Jill Gomric tied for 12th at 4-over-par 223, Julia Kraschinski tied for 18th at 6-over-par 225 and Christina Montiero rounded out the UA lineup by tying for 29th at 9-over-par 228.

Arizona's Coaching Staff: Coach Todd McCorkle is in his second season last year as head coach of the women's golf team... He had a very successful debut with the Wildcats, directing the team to four tournament titles, second place finishes at both the Pac-10 and NCAA West Regional Championships and fourth place outing at the NCAAs... Prior to last year, McCorkle served as UA Director of Golf Rick LaRose's associate head coach for both the Arizona women's and men's teams in 1997-98... The women's team won both the 1998 Pac-10 Championship and NCAA West Regional, and then placed third in the NCAA Championships... Before he came to Tucson, McCorkle was the head coach of the Coastal Carolina men's and women's golf teams... He is assisted by Amy Solfisburg, who is in her seventh year with the UA women's golf program.

UA Golf Notes: Arizona return five of their top-six golfers from last year, losing only 1998-99 senior Krissie Register... Senior Jenna Daniels was a first team All-America selection last season, while senior Jill Gomric and sophomore Cristina Baena were All-America second team performers... This season, Daniels has a third and second place finish to her credit and leads the team with a 72.50 stroke average... In her past 19 tournaments dating back to 1998, she has 13 top-10 finishes... In her career, she has 22 top-10 finishes... The Cats play at the Golf World Invitational next, Nov. 5-7, to round out the fall campaign... Daniels and Gomric were both selected to the All-Pac-10 Conference first team in voting that was done by league head coaches... Baena was named to the All-Pac-10 second team. In addition, Gomric was named to the All-Pac-10-Academic first team, while senior Shannon Ingalls and junior Christina Monteiro were honorable mention All-Pac-10 academic selections.
