TUCSON, Ariz.--Hawaii banged out 14 hits and scored early to take a 7-2 victory over Eastern Michigan in final day action of Arizona's Hillenbrand Invitational softball tournament.
The Rainbow Wahine finished 3-2 in the round-robin tournament. Eastern Michigan was 1-4.
A two-run double by Stacey Porter gave Hawaii a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Eastern Michigan cut the lead with an unearned run off a sacrifice fly by Christie Koester in the top of the second, but thbe Rainbow Wahine answered with a four-run second capped by a two-run double by Kate Judd to boost the lead to 6-1.
EMU (3-10) collected its first hit in the fourth when Tiffany Brown doubled, advchanced on a grounder, then scored on a single by shortstop Genny Hann.
Hawaii (12-8) pitcher Sheri Oroniz doubled in a run in the bottom of the fifth to make it it 7-1. EMU scored again in the sixth with a single, fielder's choice, wild pitch and RBI base hit by Koester.
