PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. ?- After a strong end to the fall season, the Arizona women's golf team began their spring season at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. on Monday. They are currently tied in ninth after one round.
The Wildcats shot a 23-over-par 307 to trail tournament leader UCLA by 18 strokes after the Bruins shot a 5-under-par 289. Duke (293) and Pepperdine (296) are in second and third, respectively. Washington and Oklahoma State rounds out the top-five after both shooting a 13-over-par 297 to tie for fourth.
Individually, junior Cassandra Kirkland leads the Wildcats by tying for seventh after shooting a 2-over-par 73 in the first round.
Junior Whitney Welch shot a 76 (+5) in today’s first round. Senior Miriam Kraschinski is tied for 53rd at 7-over-par 78. Junior Lani Elston is tied at 64th after she shot a 9-over-par 80. Senior Mar Garcia tied for 78th with an 86 (+15).
The Wildcats will tee off tomorrow at 9:45 a.m. (PST) in round two. The tournament is being contested at Palos Verdes Golf Club, Par 71 over a 5,912-yard layout.
