The Arizona Wildcat men's team starts the season at 1-0 with a 7-0 win over the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks. The Cats clinched the doubles point with wins on courts one and two and swept through singles in the 26th meeting between the two schools.

"I felt that the guys were nervous early on with today being the first match and once they settled in they did a good job," said head coach Tad Berkowitz. "It's always good to get that first win under your belt."

First to finish in doubles action was the sophomore duo of Andre Vidaller and Kieren Thompson on court two. After a close start, the duo won five straight games before Patrick Schimmelbauer and Ben Lentz came back with a win to bring the match to 7-3. Vidaller and Thompson held the Lumberjack team two three by winning the next game and clinching the match, 8-3.

In a back and forth battle on court three, Carlos Bermudez and Mario Urquidi fell, 8-6, to Dominic Bermudez and Robert Martin.

With the doubles point clinched the Cats entered singles action, where Arizona won all six matches.

In a quick match on court one, Miccini defeated Pezzutto to earn Arizona's first singles point. The Recenati, Italy native took an early lead in the first set and never let up, he held Pezzutto to three wins in two sets and won the match, 6-2, 6-1.

In the second set, Martin took an early lead but Urquidi battled his way back to tie the set at 5-5. Martin won the next game to take the 6-5 lead. Urquidi, an El Paso, Texas native, won the next two to clinch the match and another singles point for Arizona.

Shinde, who joined the team in December, clinched his first collegiate singles win on court four. Shinde took an early lead in the first set and after a comeback attempt by NAU's Waters, the Pune, India native won the set 6-3. In the second set, Shinde held Waters to one win to clinch the victory and the match for Arizona.

On court two, C. Bermudez remained locked in a back and forth battle with Schimmelbauer. The Tucson local defeated Schimmelbauer 7-5 in the first set and came out strong in the second set to win the match, 7-5, 6-2.

With the match tied at one set all, court three entered a tiebreaker. The two battled back and forth until Vidaller pulled away to win 10-7 and clinch the match.

On court six, Thompson got a late start in his match against Lentz. The Brisbane, Austrailia native rolled to a quick 6-1, 6-2 victory to round out the day for the Wildcats.
