PINETOP, Ariz. - The University of Arizona women’s soccer team took the field for its first game of the season in an exhibition scrimmage. Team “Blue”, coached by assistant Harold Warren, took on team “Red and White”, coached by assistant Lisa Oyen. Warren’s team was victorious winning the game 6-1. The scrimmage was highlighted by Pinetop native Laura Huylebroeck who had a hat trick on the day for team “Blue”.

“Overall, there were a lot of positives on both sides of the ball,” said head coach Dan Tobias. “We really like how both teams were able to adjust. Today was a really good completion to our preseason. We have had very productive experiences on and off the field and today’s match gave us more good information on how to improve the group. As a whole, we all feel really good about where we are.”

Team “Blue” got out to an early lead when freshman Huylebroeck scored on a corner kick from fellow freshman Jasmine Namdar in the sixth minute. Freshman Jacqueline Broussard made it 2-0 with her on goal corner kick in the 13th minute. The first half ended 2-0.

In the second half, team “Blue” extended its lead when Huylebroeck scored her second goal three minutes in, assisted by sophomore Gianna DeSaverio. Huylebroeck then got a hat trick with her third goal of the day. Sophomore London King had team “Red and White’s” only goal of the game. Broussard and DeSaverio each scored a goal for team “Blue” to make the final score 6-1.

Sophomore Chelsea McIntyre played the first half for team “Blue” and recorded two saves. She was in goal for team “Red and White” in the second half and had four saves. Team “Blue” had 17 shots on the day while team “Red and White” had 11.

The team will prepare this week for its road trip to Michigan. Arizona will take on Oakland on Friday, Aug. 25 in Rochester, Mich.
