Tucson, Ariz., - The No. 38 Arizona women’s tennis team was selected to participate in the 2006 NCAA Division I women’s tennis championship. The Wildcats, 12-11 on the season, will head to Stanford, Calif., to take on No. 28 Brigham Young.

Arizona finished the regular season ranked No. 36, with two ranked singles players. Freshman Danielle Steinberg earned the highest ranking of her career in the latest polls at No. 37. Sophomore Juliette Mavroleon ended the regular season at No. 81.

Brigham Young finished the regular season with a record of 20-7 overall, and second place finish in the Mountain West Conference. Although the Cougars and Wildcats did not meet during the season, they did share a few common opponents. Both squads faced Denver, Oklahoma, Oregon, Washington, and Washington State during the regular season. Both Arizona and BYU were undefeated in those matches.

Arizona and Brigham Young will face each other in the first round on May 12 at Stanford University’s Taube Tennis Center.  Start time for the match TBD.

The second round will be held May 13, times to be announced. For complete tournament brackets go to
