TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The Arizona women’s golf team completed the final round of the Wildcat Invitational in eighth place.  Arizona State claimed the team victory with a three-round total of 868 (+16).

Amanda Blumenherst from Duke claimed the individual title with a total score of three-under 210.

The Wildcats carded a 301 (+17) in the final round on Tuesday to bring their tournament total to 907 (+55).

“I think everybody is disappointed in the way we played this week, but we are not discouraged,” Head Coach Greg Allen said.  “I believe in this team, and I know that we have the players to compete and to win tournaments.”

“We just had too many big numbers.  You have to keep the ball in play on this golf course and we found ourselves taking drops from the desert way too much,” Allen said.

Junior Alison Walshe led the Wildcats with a nine-over par 222 to finish in a tie for 17th.  The Westford, Mass., native shot a 73 (+2) in the final round.

Junior Mary Jacobs finished the tournament in a tie for 23rd after totaling a 225 (+12) through 54 holes of play.

Sophomores Amanda Wilson and Adriana Zwanck tied for 39th place with a total score of 230 (+17).  Wilson moved up two spots after carding a five-over par 76 in the final round.

“The positive was seeing Amanda (Wilson) get back into lineup and give us decent numbers,” Allen said.  “I hope that this was a boost of confidence for her and will allow her to provide the scores that we need.”

Freshman Emily Mason tied for 62nd with a tournament total of 240 (+27).

Competing as individuals for the Wildcats were sophomores Marisa Smith and Brooke Schneider, and freshman Brittany Benvenuto.  Smith finished 70th, Schneider finished 81st, and Benvenuto finished in a tie for 74th.

”We are going to keep moving forward and get ready for the next event,” explained Allen.  “I believe that the best is yet to come.  We will be right there and ready to compete in the Pac-10 and post season tournaments.”
