Denton ties for ninth individually at one-under 215

               

TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona posted a four-over 292 total Tuesday to finish in a tie for seventh place at the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge in Glenview, Ill.

 

Arizona’s 292 tally Tuesday gave the team a three-round total of 878 (+14) and placed the Wildcats in a tie for eighth place with Michigan State.  Only one UA golfer broke par during the event.  UA finished 18 strokes behind tournament-winner Northwestern (860) in the field of 14 teams.  Minnesota (863) and Arizona State (865) rounded out the top three places.

 

Sophomore Trey Denton was Arizona’s top individual finisher, as he posted a three-round total of 215 (-1) to tie for ninth place.  His second-round 69 was Arizona’s only round under par for the tournament.  It was his second top-10 finish of the season.  Travis Esway finished tied for 28th place with a 221 (+5) tally.  Esway’s even-par 72 Tuesday was Arizona’s low round of the day.

 

Juniors Josh Esler and Nathan Tyler each tied for 35th place at seven-over 223, while Henry Liaw tied for 42nd place at eight-over 224.

 

The Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge was contested at The Glen Club, a par-72, 7,149-yard layout.  The Big Ten captured the conference challenge (low six team totals per round) to even the series at 1-1.

 

Arizona will next be in action, Oct. 10-11, at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Birmingham, Ala.
