TUCSON , Ariz. ?C?Arizona senior Antoine Cason, the 2007 Jim Thorpe Award winner, added another accolade to his credit when the Associated Press named the four-year starter a first-team All-American on Tuesday.

?

????????????The latest honor adds to Casonˇ?s postseason list that includes Walter Camp, The Sporting News, CBSSports.com,?SI.com, and Rivals.com first-team All-America recognition, as well as the Thorpe Award and All-Pac-10 accolades.

?

?The honors from AP, Walter Camp and The Sporting News helped him become a consensus first-team All-American, named on more of the?five teams recognized by the NCAA for that purpose (those three plus the AFCA and FWAA) than other players at his position. This year cornerback Aqib Talib of Kansas was a unanimous selection, with Cason and safeties Craig Steltz of LSU and Jamie Silva of Boston College consensus selections in the defensive secondary.

?

????????????Casonˇ?s AP All-America honors are the first for an Arizona player since Dennis Northcutt was recognized as a?kick return specialist by the organization after the 1999 season. Northcutt was a consensus kick return All-American and chosen as a first-team All-American wide receiver by the AFCA.

?

Cason is one of three players from the Pacific-10 Conference named to the first team, joining USC defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis and Arizona State place kicker Thomas Webber.

?

The Big 12 had eight players selected to the first team, leading all conferences. The Big Ten and Southeastern Conference were second with four All-Americans each.

?

The AP All-America voting panel is: Alex Abrams, The Morning New of Northwest Arkansas; Jimmy Burch, Fort Worth Star-Telegram; Mike Dearmond, The Kansas City Star; Doug Doughty, The Roanoke Times; Eric Hansen, The South Bend Tribune; Kirk Herbstreit, WBNA-AM/ESPN; John Heuser, The Ann Arbor News; Aditi Kinkhabwala, The Bergen (N.J.)
