Arizona Falls to No. 1 Stanford

Tucson, Ariz. - The No. 30 Arizona women’s tennis team (12-9, 3-3) fell Friday to No. 1 Stanford (21-0, 6-0), 4-1 at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.  Arizona lost the doubles point and won one of four singles matches.


In doubles play, senior Stephanie Balzert and sophomore Juliette Mavroleon fell in the number one position against Stanford’s Alice Barnes and Anne Yeslsey, 8-3. On court two, Stanford took the doubles point after freshman Danielle Steinberg and sophomore Camelia Todorova were defeated by Celia Durkin and Amber Liu, 8-4. Juniors Kasia Jakowlew and Jessie Rochefort fell in the number three position to Lejla Hodzic and Whitney Deason, 8-6.


 In singles play, the Wildcats were only able to claim one point in singles.  Sophomore Camelia Todorova defeated Lejla Hodzic 6-4, 6-4 on court six.


After the match was decided, 4-1, # 48 Danielle Steinberg and Kasia Jakowlew did not finish their matches.


Arizona will play Saturday against California at noon.
